The Science of Light Therapy
Photobiomodulation isn't new. It's been studied for over 30 years. Here's exactly how it works.
What is Photobiomodulation
Light as a biological signal
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the use of specific light wavelengths to trigger biological responses in skin cells. When photons at the right frequency penetrate the skin, they activate cellular processes — stimulating collagen, reducing inflammation, targeting acne bacteria.
The spectrum
The 4 Wavelengths
Red
630nmPenetrates 2–3mm into the dermis. Stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen. Targets fine lines, firmness, and skin texture.
Blue
460nmTargets Cutibacterium acnes bacteria directly. Destroys acne-causing bacteria without damaging surrounding tissue.
Amber
605nmStimulates lymphatic flow and targets melanin clusters. Reduces redness, evens skin tone, brightens complexion.
Near-Infrared
850nmPenetrates deepest — up to 5mm. Reduces inflammation, supports tissue repair, accelerates healing.
